Education is a crucial lever for powering economic growth in Philadelphia. But the Philadelphia School Partnership (PSP) believes that simply increasing taxes and wishing for schools to improve isn’t enough. Employers and other stakeholders have to get involved and demand better outcomes.

Mark Gleason will share his perspective on what’s working in the city’s campaign to improve public schools—and where opportunities are being missed. A nonprofit founded in 2010, PSP is the city’s largest independent funder of K-12 schools, having provided startup and transformation grants to more than 60 schools in the past seven years. PSP pools contributions from more than 100 foundations, corporations and individuals and invests those proceeds to expand low-income students’ access to quality schools. Its grants have touched a variety of public district, public charter, and private schools—expanding access to great schools for more than 25,000 children annually.
