Philadelphia has long been successful in retaining college graduates. But at least a third of the 20-34 year olds who lived in Philadelphia in 2000 moved out as they had school-age children. This has direct implications for our housing market. There are currently half as many 5-9 year olds in Greater Center City than there are children 4 and under. At the same time, 78% of school-age children in Greater Center City attend public schools. What is working well with our public schools and what progress is being made citywide in efforts to increase the educational attainment levels for everyone needed for a competitive 21st century workforce?
Speakers:
• Dr. William Hite, Superintendent, Philadelphia School District
• Uri Monson, Chief Operating Officer, Philadelphia School District
