Celebrating Philadelphia's Place in Cinematic History
On August 7, at 6:30pm, come to the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps for a Parkway 100 Community Conversation, "The Rise of the Rocky Steps." Learn how the steps became famous with Steadicam inventor Garrett Brown, Rocky Statue sculptor A. Thomas Schomberg, Greater Philadelphia Film Office Executive Director Sharon Pinkenson, and “Rocky Stories” author Michael Vitez. The talk's followed at 8:15pm by a free outdoor screening in Sister Cities Park of the new documentary, Before Hollywood: Philadelphia and the Birth of the Movies, by History Making Productions. The film tells the story of the city as the cradle of motion pictures and the place where movies took their first steps. Carrie Rickey, the film's producer, and director Andrew Ferrett will introduce the film. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Wine from Chaddsford Winery, along with craft beer and movie snacks, will be available for sale at the screening.
